Moana 2

Okay, so in Moana 2, we’re catching up with Moana and Maui as they’re off on another big adventure. This time, Moana gets some cryptic message from her ancestors telling her to check out these dangerous and forgotten waters somewhere in Oceania. It’s gonna be a whole new kind of challenge for her!

The movie’s all about showing that the ocean isn’t just a barrier—it actually connects people together. Disney originally thought about turning this into a series but decided to go big with it and made it into a full-on theater movie instead of a Disney+ series. So, you still get that epic animated film feel!

Much like the first Moana film, it sticks to that whole explorer-leader vibe. Jared Bush (who worked on the original!), Dana Ledoux Miller, and Bek Smith teamed up for the screenplay.

Moana’s main goal this time is to bring different Pacific Island communities together, which is no small feat! She’s grown since we saw her last—really stepping up as a leader in her village. They even animate her with more confidence now! I don’t wanna give too much away, but you might want to hang around after the end credits for a little something extra.

So basically, Vaiana’s just this young girl curious about what else is out there beyond her island home. She’s got this feeling deep down that there’s more to discover and other people she hasn’t met yet.
Alright, let me break this down for you. So there’s this adventurous girl named Vaiana who’s super curious about what’s beyond her little island. She’s got her heart set on discovering new places and finding out more about the world out there, just like how us humans always dream about exploring outer space and meeting aliens or whatever!

But this isn’t some scary story with enemies lurking around every corner. Nope! It’s a fun Disney tale where she meets friends from other islands along the way. Oh, but there is some drama! There’s this pesky god named Nalo who wasn’t too happy with all the human friendship going on and decided to sink an entire island. Now, that’s wild because that sunken island has these sneaky paths connecting all the other islands.

Vaiana’s got a tough road ahead since she’s not loaded with fancy tools or anything. Still, she’s super determined and brave, so off she goes on her wild sea journey! The adventure’s packed with hurdles, but that’s what makes it interesting—especially for kids who’ll love seeing her crafty solutions.

She’s not alone though! Her crew is pretty awesome: there’s Loto, who’s like a total genius inventor; Heihei, this nosy rooster who’s downright hilarious; Pua, her adorable pig buddy; and Kele, a farmer who joins in the ride. Together they make every twist and turn of this voyage fun and exciting.

And hey—there’s even an old grumpy guy who gets dragged into growing food as part of it all. Sounds kinda dull at first glance? Just wait till you see how things unfold—it totally ends up being unexpectedly thrilling!
Okay, so check it out: there’s this kid named Moni who’s pretty tough and can handle himself in sticky situations, but don’t expect him to have a bunch of deep thoughts or anything.

Then we’ve got Maui, you know, that super cool demigod with those rad tattoos that actually move! He’s got this amazing ability to shapeshift, which adds a wild twist to things.

For even more fun, Oceania 2 throws in these quirky Kakamora warriors—little coconut dudes who are hilarious. One of them named Kotu is like some sort of ninja inside a coconut. How awesome is that?

Meanwhile on land, Vaiana’s parents are keeping things steady while we get introduced to Simea—Vaiana’s adorable little sister. She’s experiencing the world with all that childhood wonder. It’s super cute.

And there’s some magic too—Grandma Tala’s spirit is still around keeping tabs on everything. We also meet Tautai Vasa, an ancestor who lets everyone know there’s more life beyond their islands’ coral reefs. Oh, and then there’s Matangi—a character full of mystery who completely changes what Vaiana thinks about herself.

Plus: music! There are new songs for sure. One that’s called Perditi stands out though might not stick in your head like the first movie’s tunes did.

The animation? Seriously stunning! You’ll be blown away by how they mix water, earth, fire, and air together beautifully—with awesome work from directors David G. Derrick Jr., Jason Hand, and Dana Ledoux Miller keeping things visually amazing while making scene shifts flow nice ‘n easy!
Samoa’s done something pretty cool with the Ocean. It’s like they’ve turned it into this amazing mix of both solid and liquid. Seriously, you can’t overlook the Ocean in this—it’s kinda like the main character, almost alive. It has its own way of responding to people, which makes things super interesting!
