Darkest Hour

At the beginning of the Second World War, when the surrender of France was imminent, Britain has made a decision that will change the fate of this war. As the Nazi forces seemed unstoppable, and the allied army was sprawled on the beaches of Dunkirk, the fate of Western Europe was in the hands of the newly-appointed British Prime Minister, Winston Churchill (Gary Oldman).

He carries out a struggle on two fronts – the internal one, has to cope with the machinations of his political rivals, and on the outside he has made the decision to conduct armistice negotiations with Hitler, thus saving the British nation from the cost of a war, or to go ahead with the war, though it seems already lost.

Directed by Joe Wright, the film is the dramatic and impressive story of the four weeks of the 1940s, in which Churchill’s courage to assume his true leadership has changed the course of world history.
